Writing

I stopped operating AI tools. Now I direct the agents that use them.

I haven’t used Claude Code or the Codex CLI directly in three weeks. I haven’t stopped building. I’ve changed who sits at the keyboard.

Porter, my lead Grok bot, works as my chief of staff. I give him direction. He breaks it down and hands it to specialist bots, each with one area. They do the work on a shared computer with Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, and they keep their context in one Notion workspace, so a project doesn’t start from zero when a different bot picks it up.

My setup, October 2026
  1. Direction

Me Voice and chat, mostly from my phone

Porter Chief of staff. Plans and delegates.

  2. Specialists

    • Project management Plans, tracks, keeps things moving
    • Startup ideas Researches and validates
    • Career and networking LinkedIn, CRM, relationships
    • Groceries Orders, takes requests from my wife over iMessage
    • Finances and investing Tracks and analyzes
    • Writing Drafts and edits with Claude
  3. Shared computer

Claude Code · Codex · Cursor

  4. Shared memory

Notion: Projects · CRM · Ideas · Drafts

For the first couple of hours most days, I don’t open my laptop. I talk to Porter on my phone over coffee, on a walk, or while I work out, mostly by voice call or dictation. While the agents work, I’m doing chores, training, or spending time with my family. I’m no longer sitting at a desk waiting for one task to finish so I can type the next instruction.

There are still plenty of rough edges. But I think this is where the work is going: less time operating individual AI tools, more time directing agents that operate them for us, through interfaces we already use all day, like voice and messaging.
