Product work on commerce tooling inside a large marketing platform, building for merchants at a scale and surface area an independent startup rarely sees.
↗ Visit liveAfter Mailchimp acquired LemonStand, I spent a chapter on the product side of commerce inside a large marketing platform. The shift from running a focused startup to building within scale was its own education: more users, more constraints, more surface area, and a very different relationship between a decision and its blast radius.
The throughline from the LemonStand years held. Merchants want the boring things to work. But the lessons about how to ship, prioritize, and reason about risk at scale were new, and they reshaped how I think about product judgment.
